Chapter Annual Reports
KNA Bluegrass Chapter
KNA Bluegrass Chapter has had a very productive and exciting year you can see below!
We have a great group of members attending meetings and a hardworking Board! Board
meetings occur every 3rd Tuesday of the even months, and membership meetings occur
every 3rd Tuesday of the odd months, both at The Chop House in Lexington, starting at
5:30 for social time and then meeting time begins at 6 PM. Our goal is to arrange for a
continuing education presentation at each membership meeting with the opportunity for
attendees to earn 1.0 contact hour. Below is a recap for the year:
November Member Meeting 2016:
• The “first” Karen Sexton award was presented to Ms. Kim Wilder. Ms. Wilder currently
works at Baptist Health-Lexington and is a member of the Board of Directors of our
Bluegrass Chapter. This was a well-deserved recognition for Ms. Wilder’s hard work and
dedication in the provision of care for patients.
• Our guest speaker Mr. John Edwards gave a presentation on: 21st Century Acute
Pain Management: A Paradigm Shift. The presentation included clinical importance
regarding decreasing the amount of opioids for post-operative pain and replacing
with other non-narcotic pharmaceuticals. Based on the presentation, Mr. Edwards and
colleagues at Baptist Health-Lexington are having good results with their change in
pain treatment modalities.
• For our yearly outreach initiative, members donated $245 for the newly opened
Jessamine County Homeless Coalition.
January Member Meeting 2017:
• CE presentation and speaker-John Centimole, PhD, CRNA, at the Chandler Medical
Center (UKMC) presented findings of his recently completed PhD research study
“Cognitive Function and Anesthetics.” The findings of his study identified a significant
correlation on the effect of cognitive function in clients who have received certain
anesthesia medications during surgical procedures. The findings are valuable to
current anesthesia care practice.
• We approved the 2016/2017 budget and are in the process of soliciting volunteers to
serve on the Finance Committee.
March Member Meeting 2017:
• Board members attended all the local colleges and schools of nursing within the
demographic area of our Bluegrass Chapter (EKU ADN, EKU BSN, Midway, BCTC,
Berea, and UK) to disseminate KNA information to the senior nursing students in hopes
of recruitment to KNA BG chapter.
