$40k bicycle
parks likely to
be approved
THE CITY council could spend
$40,000 installing bicycle parks
across Christchurch each year.
City councillors have asked for
the money to be put aside annually
in the 2018-2028 Long Term Plan
budget.
City council planning and delivery
transport manager Lynette
Ellis said it was required to provide
adequate cycle parking, similar to
on and off-street car parks.
Private commercial developers
also had to provide adequate cycle
parks under the replacement District
Plan, she said.
“The $40,000 set aside allows
funds for cycle stands to be installed
in key locations across the city at yet
to be identified locations.”
She said typically it costs about
$600 to buy and install each stand.
“Therefore the money allocated
can provide approximately 65
stands per year.”
It would use a robust hoop style
stand and could fit two to three
bikes per hoop, she said.
The draft Long Term Plan is likely
to be approved in February before a
month of consultation.
The final plan will be adopted in
June.
