The Youth Coaching Series
Raffaele Tomarchio
When I started coaching over 20 years ago,
the available soccer information for a new,
or experienced youth coach, was somehow
limited to the material and information received
from the local Soccer Association, at
the various coaching courses.
For those coaches that wanted more, you
could buy some books, or order some videotapes
on general soccer topics, all very interesting,
but nothing in comparison to what
coaches are able to access today.
When it comes to get soccer information for
youth coaches, the internet has definitely
become a game changer. Now, it is all at our
finger tips: there are specialized soccer websites,
YouTube videos, e-books, blogs, online
sessions, and much more. The digital information
has definitely contributed to the development
of soccer coaches, especially for
those who are highly motivated, thirsty for
knowledge and self-improvement, and willing
to spend hours upon hours sifting
through the available online information.
On the other hand, this ease of access has
created a risky side effect known as information
overload. It’s great that coaches have
drills that they can download, videos the can
watch, and blogs they can read. However, it
also requires a great deal of time investment
to filter the information, and determine
what is appropriate and what is not.
THE YOUTH COACHING SERIES E-BOOKS titled
TEACH YOUTH PLAYERS are designed to
provide youth coaches with training solutions
that focus on specific development
topics that are appropriate for the age group
they coach.
Each E-Book gives the coach a detailed overview
on a topic, highlighting the technical,
tactical, physical and physiological requirements
needed to achieve optimal performance.
It provides the coach with detailed exercises
designed to address the various components
of training. Each exercises is explained, objectives
outlined with coaching priorities,
and technical key factors.
This E-book is only a starting point. It give
coaches - new or even experienced ones-a
foundation to build on, knowledge and understanding
of the topic covered, and a
block of progressive plans and exercises, that
can be used to develop aspects of their
team and player development.
The first E-book of these series is entitled:
