10 FAMOUS FORESTS
IN MALAYSIA
EVERY NATURE LOVER MUST VISIT
According to the World Wildlife Organisation
Malaysia, the rainforests of Southeast Asia are
believed to be the oldest and among the most
biologically diverse in the world. Malaysia's
land surface was once almost entirely covered
with forest. Today, forests still cover about
59.5% of the total land area. So, the next time
you choose a short getaway or day trip, why
not surround yourself with greenery and learn
more about the world within these forests that
will have you visiting, time and time again?
Bukit Gasing Forest Reserve
Petaling Jaya, Selangor
Depending on your level of
fitness, there are several
hiking trails to choose from.
However, be warned that
this place is a hive of activity
especially during the
weekends and public
holidays. Avoid the forest if
it has rained the day before
your hike as it will be muddy
and dangerous if you're not
a regular trekker. If you are,
be cautious of your trail and
bring appropriate hiking gear to ensure safety. A neat tip when
you're hiking on a nice and sunny day, look up! Try and not
focus on what or where you're stepping on and admire the
trees and views as you complete your walking trail!
Mossy Forest
Cameron Highlands, Pahang
Instagrammers, take note that
you would not need to use filters
while taking pictures within this
forest and that's because the
place is simply majestic and
magical on its own! The forest
is at Cameron Highlands or specifically along
the trail from Mount Brinchang to Mount Irau. Take note of
your surroundings and the weather as it is often damp and
wet. The chilly environment, stunted stumps, wrinkled leaves
and gnarled branches of oak trees clumped together form
dense crowns that protrude from the ground like mushrooms
while rich layers of moss drape around tree trunks infusing
them with a soft, green appearance. Meanwhile, vines and
other fascinating plants hang loosely or intertwine with trees
and plants, exuding a creepy yet intriguing view.
