Sarawak adds two
international flights with AirAsia
The world’s best low-cost airline has added two new international flights into Sarawak
namely, Shenzhen to Kuching and Singapore to Bintulu.
The two new direct international flights are part of AirAsia’s pipeline to boost the
international connectivity into east Malaysia, in line with the state government’s effort
to improve the tourism industry and flight connectivity into the state.
The Singapore to Bintulu flight
welcoming ceremony
AirAsia Berhad Head of Commercial, Spencer Lee said, “We are honoured and
humbled to welcome two new international flights into Sarawak. AirAsia has always
been committed towards expanding the markets in Sarawak and these direct flights
reiterate our commitment to grow the connectivity in and out of the state. To-date,
we have flown about 4.8 million guests in and out of Sarawak which is 12.1 percent
more from 2016 with China and Singapore in the top five nationality.”
He also said, “We hope the introduction of these new routes will foster the number
of visitors into Sarawak next year (2018) and this is only made possible by the continuous
support rendered by Sarawak’s state government and tourism authorities. We are also
proud to be recognised as the leading airline operator by the Sarawak State Government
at the Sarawak Hornbill Tourism Award 2015/2016 this year. Hence, we would like to
thank the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Sarawak as well as Sarawak Tourism
Board for their endless support and we will continue to uphold the state government’s
policy to improve the connectivity to drive the state’s tourism growth and we look
forward to being the leading airline that connects the ‘Land of the Hornbills’ further.”
Fly with Scoot between
Singapore and Kuantan today!
Scoot now flies between Singapore and
Kuantan, making it the sixth destination
in Malaysia after Kuala Lumpur, Penang,
Langkawi, Ipoh and Kuching.
The inaugural flight landed at the
Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Airport,
Kuantan on February 2 with passengers
on Scoot’s A320 aircraft receiving a
warm welcome with a traditional
'Gendang Pahang' drum performance
organised by Pahang Tourism.
Commenting on the three-times weekly
flight, Scoot’s Chief Commercial Officer
Vinod Kannan said, “We are pleased to
mark Kuantan as the sixth city Scoot
operates in Malaysia, shortly after
launching Kuching last December.
Kuantan and Kuching are part of our
strategy to introduce the off-the-beaten
travel experience to Singaporeans and
connecting passengers from around the
region. With such beautiful rainforests
and beaches that Malaysia has to offer,
we are glad to open up these potential
business and leisure destinations with
incredible airfares for our guests!”
Malaysia Airports Managing Director,
Datuk Badlisham Ghazali said, “Being
the national airport operator, we are
more than happy to welcome Scoot from
Singapore flying in to our Sultan Ahmad
Shah Airport. Kuantan is a new route by
Scoot after Kuala Lumpur, Ipoh,
Langkawi, Penang and the most recent
was Kuching. We believe that with the
total number of 241,000 inbound and
outbound passenger movements
recorded at our airport in Kuantan last
December 2017, it has built confidence
in Scoot to make Kuantan as one of their
international destinations. This new route
is an addition to the current international
connectivity flown by Firefly to Singapore.
We are excited that this new route would
bring benefit not only to the tourism
industry but also to the other economic
enablers in the state.”
Scoot is the low-cost arm of the
Singapore Airlines Group. The airline’s
network presently encompasses 64
destinations across 17 countries with
Berlin and Pekanbaru to join the
network soon.
Scoot flies three times weekly between
Singapore and Kuantan!
