What attracted you to TSR?
Giving amateurs the opportunity
to achieve their goal & feel they
have a good chance of reaching
their goals, due to competing
against other amateurs &
having equal opportunities. The
professionalism & friendliness
of the whole TSR Team, Sarah
has always been available to give
me advice when I asked for it.
How did the clinics help you
achieve your ambition?
They gave me the confidence
to go out & achieve & believe
in myself. Also to keep working
& trying, basically never giving
up until I get to where I want
to be. My first TSR clinic with
Penny Hollings was with my old
Irish Draught, we got through
to the final 10 to compete for
the chance to ride at HOYS,
but we didn’t make it on this
occasion. The following year I
gave it a go with Tugs (LW Show
Cob), we were a Reserve Rider
so didn’t make it to the final
10, the final time I put myself
forward, we made the final 10 &
won the Ride Off giving us the
opportunity to ride at HOYS!
This was due to persistence, I
knew what I wanted, so although
it took 3 attempts - it was all
worth it as my dreams of riding
at HOYS came true.
What advice would you give
to someone considering
joining TSR?
Go for it! Sarah & the team are
encouraging, friendly & very
knowledgable. Any questions I
have, Sarah is always there to
help & give advice. It has helped
build my confidence & continue
growing as an equestrian &
competition rider.
Tell us a little about your
horse/pony and what classes
you compete in?
I have 3 competition horses,
my main boy is Tom Tug, a 13
year old LW Show Cob. He has
enabled me to reach my goals
of riding at HOYS in the TSR
Masterclass, competing at RIHS
- coming 4th, competing in the
BSHA Grassroots Championship
& taking Reserve Champion
& winning the Nupafeed LW
Cobs EquiFest - the centre line
gallop is the most amazing
feeling ever! Although I will
continue with the HOYS & RIHS
qualifiers, Tug also competes in
Working Show Horse classes, so
our aim is to qualify for the SEIB
Working Show Horse. In a couple
of years time I will aim him at
the Olympia qualifiers.
My second horse is my 5 year old
Irish Draught Grade One Mare
- The Lady Farmer. We had a
successful first season last year,
a few Championship in hand &
under saddle, including Reserve
Champion In Hand Irish Draught
Mare at North Yorkshire County
& 5th at the Great Yorkshire
Show. We also qualified for
the TSR Finals & attended
Countryside Live, finishing 3rd.
This year we’re focusing on the
Irish Draught Ridden & In Hand
& Novice Hunter classes.
Last but certainly not least,
Dunedin Mathew, our 9 year
old Highland. We focus on
M&M exc 143cm Working
Hunter & last year was our first
BSPS Novice Season. He had
a fantastic start to his career,
always placed & mostly in the
top 3 qualifying & attending all
3 BSPS Championships (Winter,
Summer & Heritage). He’s taken
numerous championships along
the way, including the Olympia
Semi Finals & BSPS Area 3B
Reserve Supreme Champion at
White Rose County. Our aim by
the end of the year is to have
competed in couple of RIHS &
HOYS Working Hunter classes &
to qualify next year.
