TO TOM
Arelquin aka Tom,
Beverley Brightmans
International Grand
Prix dressage horse
died in a tragic field accident at
the age of 30.
Beverley says “He was my
horse of a lifetime, I owe him
everything and he has been
with me throughout the whole
of my dressage career”
Beverley bought Tom 21 years
ago when she first started
dressage. With very little
knowledge about the sport it
was just beginners luck. They
had a sticky start as Beverley
found Tom grumpy,spooky and
disliking dressage. The turning
point came though when Tom
had a virus which paralysed
him for nearly a week. He had
to be rehabilitated very slowly
and it was the making of him.

He became enthusiastic and
happy and with the help of
David Trott, Ellen Bontje and
Conrad Schumacher they
reached the dizzy heights of
Grand Prix in just under 3
years.
They went on to be placed at
every level at the National
Championships ten years
in a row, they were 10th
in the final trial for Athens
Olympics. Tom retired sound
at the age of 21 having
complete 59 Grands Prix all
over Europe. A truly amazing
feat.
He then taught a further 3
riders to Grand Prix level at
Beverleys base in Colmworth
Bedfordshire before retiring
into the field at the age of 25.
He had five happy years in the
field with his best friend Mini
Mouse who is 35.
He was my
