What attracted you to TSR?
I had been out the showing
world for a long time, and after
having various conversations
with different people I decided
to look at what TSR offered.
It seemed an ideal starting
point for an amateur like me
who wanted to get back into
showing whilst having fun at
the same time. I completed
my membership and never
looked back. The options were
endless and the advice/help on
offer has proved invaluable.
The first opportunity I had
to do anything with TSR was
a showing clinic at a local
equestrian centre.
How did the clinics help you
achieve your ambition?
The showing clinic was an
excellent opportunity to have
professionals Sarah Chapman
and Wyn Morris cast their eye
over my horse Patch and myself.
They gave endless tips and
advice on tack, turnout, in hand
show technique and also had
the opportunity for Sarah to
ride and give further advice on
my horse’s way of going. This
clinic really did set me on the
right track and our first year of
showing followed with amazing
success that we could only
have dreamed of previously.
We got talent spotted and had
the opportunity to compete
in our age category in the TSR
Masterclass at Onley, going
onto win our age group and had
the once in a lifetime chance to
ride at Horse of the Year Show.
That whole experience will be
one I’ll never forgot and it’s all
thanks to the TSR for believing
in us and giving us that chance
we needed.
What advice would you give
to someone considering
joining TSR?
I would definitely say to go
for it! Whether you are just
wanting to go out and compete
locally or to try and gain a
qualification card and compete
at a TSR final, the opportunities
are endless. It’s fun, friendly
and there to help. You have
absolutely nothing to lose by
joining but so much to gain!
I wouldn’t have got as far as I
have without it!
Tell us a little about your
horse/pony and what classes
you compete in?
Oneida Patch is my 17.1hh
chestnut gelding who is 9 years
old this year. I bought him as
a 5 year old direct from his
breeders and we had a tough
start to our time together. Patch
suffered severe lameness issues
and after a long 18 months of
recovery we finally made it into
the show ring. After a fantastic
first year of showing in 2017,
competing in Show Hunter
classes, we have started 2018
with a bang after winning both
his amateur and open Royal
International Horse Show
qualifiers in the Middleweight
Show Hunter and we are very
much looking forward to the
season ahead. We do a lot of
work on the beach to keep him
fit and supple and compete in
dressage as well to keep him
active. He is one in a million
and is quite the character on
the yard!
