PARKLAND MAYOR
CHRISTINE
HUNSCHOFSKY
Spring is a busy and exciting
time in Parkland and I want to
congratulate all of our seniors
who are graduating from high school
and college. It always amazes me
to see the accomplishments of our
students. We wish them the best
of luck as they continue with a successful future. I would
also like to wish a Happy Mother’s Day to the moms of
Parkland. Thank you for all you do for your family and for our
community.
We just completed our annual strategic planning sessions
and I want to thank our City Commission and City Staff for
their hard work in the crucial process that ensures we provide
our residents with a high level of service at a reasonable
cost. Throughout the year we ask for and receive ideas from
residents through surveys, meetings, and direct contact.
We use that information to help develop strategic plans
and programs for the City. This is part of our annual budget
process, which continues through September.
During strategic planning, the Commission analyzes and
discusses the needs of all areas of Parkland and develops a
comprehensive strategic plan to address those needs. City
staff then take the priorities laid out by the Commission and
develop a fiscally sound budget for the coming year. The
2017-18 budget will be voted on at our Budget Hearings
on September 13, at 7pm, and September 22, at 6pm, at
Parkland City Hall. Resident input is always invited and is an
important part of our planning and budget process, which
enables the City to prioritize community projects.
We just closed out another very successful Farmers
Market season. Thank you to Mercantil Commercebank
for sponsoring this popular community event. The Farmers
Market starts up again in November when the weather cools
down again. At Terramar Park, the City is resurfacing five of
the hard tennis courts, which are open for public use on a
first-come-first-served basis, and we began work on two
more multipurpose fields.
In May, we have the Fishing Derby on May 7, and Eats
‘N Beats on May 13. Information on all our programs and
events is at cityofparkland.org and on our Facebook page at
facebook.com/copfl. Feel free to reach out to me at any time
at chunschofsky@cityofparkland.org. I look forward to your
comments and suggestions. P
