SUMMER
Something
for everyone this
by Jason Stromberg
School’s out for Summer! For Coral
Springs and Parkland families, it’s
that time to find a summer camp
program for children. Look no
further than Coral Springs Parks
and Recreation Director Rick Engle
for advice.
“As we get into summer, we have
lots of programs for all ages,
especially the school-age children,”
Engle said. “We have
sports
camps,
swim lessons, tennis lessons, tennis
camps, dance classes, dance
camps, and the Coral Springs
Museum of Art has a program.
The theatre group has its program.
There’s a little bit of everything going
on.”
That’s good news for parents trying to
keep their kids busy.
In Coral Springs, Kamp Kool is a
great way for children to keep busy
and have fun. A six-week, two session program, which
runs from June 18 to July 27, Kamp Kool takes place at
Coral Glades High School, the Coral Springs Gymnasium,
Cypress Park, and Mullins Park.
At Coral Glades High School, kids in first through fifth grade
can participate in action-packed games, outdoor sports,
swimming, arts and crafts, movies, on site entertainment,
special events, and field trips. Free
breakfast and lunch are included.
For children and teens with special
needs, an active camp takes
place at Mullins Park, where those
attending can swim, play sports
and games, do arts and crafts, and
take field trips. All participants must
be self-sufficient.
MusicMakers! Summer Camp
returns to celebrate its 21st season.
A unique performing arts program for kids of all ages, each
session excites campers through hands-on learning in
singing, percussion, keyboard, string orchestra, woodwinds,
choreography, and music reading.
The Marvelous Movie Magic! will
run from June 18 to July 6 and The Sound
of Music runs from July 9 to 20 at Coral
Springs Charter School. “Our goal is to keep
the children active and in a safe, organized,
and well-supervised program,” Engle said.
“That’s important because the parents can
go to work and feel like their children are
being taken care of.”
In Coral Springs’ Sports Camps,
participants are expected to bring
lunches and proper gear to all
camps. The Futsal Soccer 5 on 5
camp for boys and girls, ages 5 to 19, will
be for two sessions ranging from June 11
to Aug. 3 at Riverside Park.
