HURRICANE SEASON
Hurricane season is back. After
the season we had last year, we
decided to asked folks what would
they do differently this year.
Photos and interviews by Beth Black
I would leave again, but
without hurting myself. Last
time I spent so much time
preparing that I suffered with
severe back pain for weeks.
I would also stay away
longer. No fun returning to
no electricity. — Deb Yager
My first impulse is to say I will
leave, which I will do next
time, but it was a good thing
I was here for it last year.
Flying debris broke through
my hurricane shutter and
began to flood my home.
Leave! I will also have a
cover for my generator
and portable air
conditioner.
This hurricane season I
need to check my stock of
supplies when the season
starts so that I don’t have
to rush out right before
the storm hits for anything
except the essentials that
are hard to keep at the
ready all the time!
— Jessica Horn
I would network better
with our neighbors so
we have better feeling
of where everyone is and
what plans are. After the
storm everyone just kind
of came out of their homes
looking around. We would
know better who was gone
and who might need help. — Brooke Foreman
Now that I know I am on a
hospital grid and won’t lose
power, I might stay home. Last
year we rode out the storm on
the west side of town to be safe,
but having power the whole
time would have been nice.
