ARTIST OF THE MONTH: DR. ALAN SPITZER
Alan Spitzer began photographing during
the 1970s. At first, his photographs
were taken primarily as a hobby but then
became a means of serious personal
expression. While pursuing research work
in his other career of neonatal medicine, he
temporarily put his photography exhibiting
on hold. Throughout this period, he
continued to photograph avidly, with some
of this imagery forming the basis for the
current exhibition. He posts a new daily
photo on Instagram
@alanspitzerphotography.
His work will be on display
at the Parkland Library
June 1st through 30th.
KNIT ‘N’ KNOWLEDGE

projects, tips, techniques, and ideas to
share with fellow knitters at the Parkland
Library.
ADULT COLORING BOOK ART
Tuesday, June 5, 10:30am to noon
Decompress and let your mind wander
while enjoying this latest creative trend:
coloring books for adults. We’ll add some
soothing background music and light
snacks to create a little “me time” in your
day. We will provide the supplies or you
may bring your own.

SUMMER READING CLUB
Thursday, June 7, to Saturday, August 11
Every person, ages 2 through adult, will
receive a small gift for coming in and
registering for the “Libraries Rock” Summer
Reading Club. Keep a log of books you
read to earn prizes all summer. The more
books you read the more prizes you get.

ADULT SUMMER READING KICKOFF WITH
SPEAKER OLINE COGDILL
Saturday, June 9, 10:30 to 11:30am
Journalist and mystery fiction columnist
Oline Cogdill will kick off the summer by
talking about the best mysteries of 2017.
Tea and refreshments will be served. This
event marks the start of Parkland Library’s
“Libraries Rock” Adult Summer Reading
Club. Sponsored by Parkland Friends of
the Library.
GAME DAY
Monday, June 11, 11am to noon
Meet friends or make new ones and have
fun the old fashioned way by playing board
games at the library. For ages 5 and older.
JUNE 2018
ART CLASS: FUNDAMENTALS OF DRAWING
Tuesday, June 12, 10:30am to noon
The focus of this drawing class, for teens
and adults, will be on sketching basic
shapes and using a variety of lines and
shading techniques. The class instructor is
Malgorzata Kawashima. Supplies included,
no experience necessary.
KIDS ROCKIN’ SUMMER READING KICKOFF
SHOW
Tuesday, June 12, 4pm
Sing and dance with award-winning
children’s musician Patty Shukla during this
interactive music show. Children, ages 2
through 5th grade, can register for the club
and earn prizes all summer.
BRICKS ‘N’ BOOKS
Wednesday, June 13, 3pm
Children, ages 6 and older, bring your
imagination and Lego building skills to the
library. At each Bricks and Books meeting
we will have a new building challenge.

TEEN SUMMER READING KICKOFF “ROCK
CONCERT” SCULPTURE CRAFT
Wednesday, June 13, 6 to 8pm
Take the popular rock painting trend up
a level with this creative craft. Middle and
high school kids will create a rock sculpture
“rock concert” with paint and glue under
the guidance of local artist Christine
Landis. Participants are encouraged to
register for the “Libraries Rock” Summer
Reading Club. Anyone who joins will get a
prize and reading log.
