As described in note 2.17.2, Sodexo recognizes<br />

actuarial gains and losses arising during the<br />

period, net of deferred taxes, in the statement of<br />

comprehensive income.<br />

Cumulative actuarial gains and losses reported<br />

in the statement of comprehensive income as of<br />

August 31, 2<strong>01</strong>1 represented a net actuarial loss<br />

of 25 million euro. Cumulative actuarial gains and<br />

Defined benefit plan assets comprise:<br />

losses recognized in other comprehensive income as<br />

of August 31, 2<strong>01</strong>0 represented a net actuarial loss<br />

of 61 million euro. This change in actuarial losses<br />

resulted primarily from the rise in interest rates in<br />

the United Kingdom, where most of the obligation is<br />

held. This change, however, was offset by negative<br />

actuarial changes in connection with changes in other<br />

assumptions such as the rate of inflation or mortality<br />
