2.3 Preserving the environment<br />

Sodexo is deploying programs at clients’ sites in four<br />

main areas:<br />

• sustainable supplies;<br />

• reducing energy consumption and Co emissions;<br />

• fighting misuse of resources and reducing waste.<br />

Specific actions pursued in Fiscal 2<strong>01</strong>1 include:<br />

• a revision of Sodexo’s Group Supplier Code of<br />

Conduct to include the requirement for suppliers<br />

to keep Sodexo informed about their progress. In<br />

this revised version, references have also been<br />

added to Fundamental Rights at Work, and to<br />

Business Integrity, such as Unfair Competition<br />

and Corruption. In addition, Sodexo strived to<br />

ensure that every country has the Code of Conduct<br />

available in their national language and that it is<br />

signed by their contracted suppliers. The code is<br />

now available in <strong>13</strong> languages;<br />

• in conjunction with the WWF, Sodexo defined<br />

five priority products with a view to define a<br />

sustainable sourcing policy and strategy for each<br />

of these agricultural commodities. Sodexo worked<br />

Respecting the environment implies creating the<br />

requisite framework to promote Quality of Life in<br />

the communities while responding to the needs of<br />

stakeholders, who aspire to preserve a sustainable<br />

planet. Sodexo is well aware that its activities at<br />

33,400 sites in 80 countries have an impact on<br />

the environment. Sodexo’s priority is to purchase<br />

more sustainable and ethical products, reduce its<br />

carbon footprint, curb its water consumption, and<br />

responsibly manage the waste produced by its<br />

activities.<br />

obtained membership of the RSPO (Roundtable on<br />

Sustainable Palm Oil);<br />

• in parallel to its worldwide agreement with MSC,<br />

Sodexo formalized a Group Sustainable Seafood<br />

Sourcing policy. The Group also established a<br />

Sustainable Seafood Sourcing Guide for the supply<br />

of Fish & Seafood, designed as a tool to make the<br />

best choices for our future assortment. The Guide<br />

includes information on 60 species, including each<br />

of the 15 “at risk” species that have been removed<br />

from Sodexo’s catalogue and menus;<br />
