Let Us Entertain You!
By: Evan Davis / Entertainment Editor
This may sound somewhat familiar, but
I can’t stop raving about the marvelous
lineup for our Vegas Voice senior benefit on
Sunday, August 19 th at the Adelson Campus. At 3
pm we are proudly presenting the “Sizzzlin’ Summer Afternoon Affair
Extravaganza.”
The benefit is for our sister non-profit organization, Vegas Voice
Elder Hub. It’s worthwhile mission is to: (1) Be the HUB and
anchor of senior information and resources, (2) To Stop
Guardian & Elder Abuse by providing information,
resources and awareness of any senior abuse – including
financial exploitation, and (3) help every senior enjoy
life to the fullest.
I guarantee that we will be fulfilling the 3 rd point of having seniors
enjoy life with this great show. I am truly proud and honored to have
assembled such a remarkable line up of talent together - with surprises
I don’t even know about.
We’ve been able to provide some cool music, hosted by Chadwick
Johnson and Jonathan Karrant. Chadwick, a pop artist, singer
With my co-hosts Chadwick Johnson & Jonathan Karrant
and songwriter, and Jonathan the modern-day equivalent of jazz
singer Mel Torme, will co-host the show.
I have no idea what Jonathan and Chadwick will have in their
back pockets, but I’m sure they will be very entertaining. Let’s also not
forget the diverse talent that will be on the stage.
Let’s start with the lead singer of the Checkmates, Sonny Charles.
His hit, Black Pearl, put him on the map and he later toured with the
Steve Miller Band.
That performer alone would be enough to make the show a big hit,
but let’s bring in Travis Cloer, a true Broadway star who performed
in Jersey Boys as Frankie Vali, and Marilyn the Musical, to name just
a few.
Then there’s the Vegas icon Chris Phillips, better known as Zowie
Bowie. You can find him everywhere from downtown to the strip.
“Zowie Bowie is to Sin City what Frank Sinatra and Ann-Margret
were to Vegas back in the ’60s.” – a quote from the Las Vegas Magazine.
And how about the gals! Anne Martinez has performed in many
shows on the strip and is currently performing in “Baz” and Alice
“Steam Punk Concert.”
Elisa Fiorillo, a backup singer with Prince and the New Power
Generation for five years, has been singing with Bruce Harper’s big
band here in town. And then we have a wonderful jazz singer from the
Bay Area, Amanda King, who has made her home in Vegas and has a
style that’s reminiscent of Ella Fitzgerald.
I promise you, a “plethora of musical talent.”
And last, but certainly not least, our own Vegas Voice Band under
the musical direction of Grammy Award winner Gary Anderson.
From beginning to end, the show will delight and entertain you.
There’s no better way to spend a hot summer Sunday then with some
cool friends. So come on out to the Adelson Campus on Sunday, August
19 th for our 3 pm “Sizzzlin’ Summer Extrvaganza.”
