The Digital Dilemma
By: Adrea Nairne-Barrera / 60s to 60
That moment when you realize that in spite
of all you’ve done to get the best deal or
trim the extras, it’s getting more expensive and
your fixed income is not keeping up.
Now as prices go up and benefits go down, we live in an age where
every new technological product has become a “must have” - whether
you like it or not. Liking it is not my issue. I can’t always afford it and
then I’m out of the loop.
We watch the Emmys and all these awards go to cable company
extras. Suddenly my TV costs $100, my internet costs $60 and a land
line costs $39. Add the tax and an occasional movie add-on, and we’re
well over $200 a month. How insane!
If you want an antenna for free TV, good luck. The company tells you
because of the mountains, you’ll only get 2 networks and some weird
channels.
Let’s take the phone lines. If you want to have a land line in case
there’s some kind of problem with your digital services, it won’t work
anyway because it’s hard wired to your digital service.
OLD SIGNS.
NEW TECHNOLOGY.
Introducing Brilliant, the newest
interactive experience at The Neon
Museum. This revolutionary art form
uses sight and sound to transport you
through time and bring long dormant
signs back to life. If all this seems hard
to picture, that’s because it is. You
literally have to see it to believe it.
If your cell phone needs help to get a signal in some areas, the next
step is begging your cell provider for a booster. It helps a bit; however I
find it’s only good in a 10 square foot area of my house.
Then come the internet charges. A personal favorite of mine for sure.
I have been upgraded many times for free they say. Now I’m upgraded
to the newest version and it is a miserable experience.
I can’t dump my trash emails, it won’t respond when I want to fix
spam settings and countless other annoying things are happening. And,
my computer is slower but my speed with the company is considered
higher. Huh?
I asked for the old version but they wouldn’t give it to me. Then they
said my 20 year discount isn’t really available now that I have the latest
version. Who asked for it anyway?
If I switch my TV to another company who uses my same email
provider, I can’t have my same email address. Good one guys.
So the moment is here and decisions are pending. Grab the foil and
rabbit ears!
