When Mike Karaman founded The Phone
Network in 1987, his job included collecting
coins from pay phones. Communications
has changed at warp speed since then,
replaced by smart phones and an increasingly
sophisticated Internet.
Karaman first came to the Fayetteville via
Fort Bragg after graduating from West Point in
1979 with a degree in electrical engineering. A
desire to operate his own business led him to
resign his commission and use his knowledge
and interest in telecommunications to start

provider of now obsolete private pay phones.
In 1990, Karaman became an authorized
agent for Cellular One, then a leader in wireless
phone systems. The business expanded
again in 1992 to fill a growing need for sales
and servicing of business telephone systems
and data systems.
The name change to Karaman
Communications, in 2008, reflected the
broader range of technology offered by the
company as it expanded. The company is
a premier provider of Panasonic Business
Telephone Equipment and can work with
almost any type of business phone system.
The company is also involved in all aspects of
the communication and computer industry,
utilizing VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol)
and performing all tasks associated with
cabling for voice and data systems.

Mike lives in Fayetteville with his wife and

member of Operation InAsMuch, secretary
of Tip’s & Lead’s Club of Cumberland County
and past chairman of the Cumberland County
Work Force Development Board. The Karaman
Family also owns three franchise stores of
Woof Gang Bakery and Grooming serving the
Fayetteville, Raleigh and Cary areas.
