The Museum of the Cape Fear Historical
Complex presents the history of southern
North Carolina from the Paleo-Indian period
through the American Revolution, antebellum
and into the first decades of the 1900s.
Arsenal Park shows the location of the
1838-commissioned arsenal that was used
by the Confederate troops during the
Civil War and destroyed by Union General
William T. Sherman’s troops in 1865. The
1897 Poe House rounds out the complex,
highlighting life in the first decades of
the twentieth century. Future plans for the
complex call for a state Civil War museum
and center.

The Fascinate-U Children’s Museum is
located in the old City Hall in downtown
Fayetteville and offers many hands-on
exhibits. Fascinating activities include a
grocery store shopping spree, 911 emergency
dispatch center, TV weather center, fire
station, dentist office, doctor’s area and
Electri-City activity. And parents can finish
a day at the museum with a stop by the
gift store.
