keep an eye on things." She drained her thimble and slid out into the<br />

hall where the super stood over a very sleepy Bob<strong>by</strong> fumbling with the<br />

drill on the doorframe.<br />

"Hi Ramón, not wasting any time, huh? I'm going off for a<br />

while. Think you could keep an eye on things?"<br />

"Are you going to look for Señorita Nova with Señor Tivoglio?<br />

He has located her?"<br />

"Not yet. Just hope she's okay, wherever she is.”<br />

"I have the Paris number, if anything <strong>com</strong>es up. Is there<br />

anything else I can do?" Ramón said, squinting through his cloud of<br />

smoke.<br />

"Thanks, you've been great, you couldn't blow through this<br />

door with a bazooka!"<br />

Holding the drill like a phaser gun, Bob<strong>by</strong> beamed at Penny<br />

through his safety goggles. Penny gave old Ramón a big hug and he<br />

smiled his tragic smile, wishing her "buen viaje."<br />

Alessandro waited for her at the elevator under the fritzing<br />

fluorescent. <strong>In</strong> his designer get-up he looked ready to transdimensionally<br />

vaporize with her to the outer galaxies.<br />

He flashed a big white crescent at Rodriguez, who saluted back<br />

and said, "Buen viaje Señor Tivoglio!"<br />

"Eh, muchas gracias, Ramón," Alessandro answered, a frenzied,<br />

a<strong>by</strong>smal look in his eyes.<br />

That's when the Moment of Panic hit her. <strong>In</strong>tellectual property<br />

was pretty much obsolete, right? She was traveling halfway around the<br />

planet with this character for what, exactly?<br />

They jumped out of the taxi at JFK and ran through the<br />

revolving door into the Air France terminal.<br />

He stuck his hand out. "Your passport." Too out of breath<br />

from keeping up with his long stride, she gave it to him.<br />

Only when the pertly uniformed desk clerk handed them their<br />

boarding passes tucked neatly inside their passports did Penny realize<br />

they were not going economy class. <strong>Her</strong> eyes met his and there was that<br />

smirk again.<br />

"Concorde, we get there faster. You will love the sound. It is -<br />

extremely low."<br />

They breezed past the airport security troops to the rubber<br />

gloved customs. This gang barely looked at the X ray monitors when<br />

the three bags rumbled through the conveyor belt, but gave them the<br />
