sugar syrup from her cup. She had never told anyone the whole story,<br />

still, she wasn't going to let anyone know she was still on the project,<br />

not yet. She looked up from her cup.<br />

After silently studying her with his chin in his hands, he<br />

straightened abruptly up, nearly tipping the chair over, "To fly directly<br />

Penny got the feeling that maybe this guy was <strong>com</strong>pletely<br />

bonkers.<br />

Suddenly, all heads in the café turned to the doorway where a<br />

black skinned super hero in a yellow Spandex cycling suit scanned the<br />

café. The pupils of his eyes, black pins inside white slits, moved over<br />

the crowd like the Terminator, whose multiplied image ricocheted on<br />

the mirrors from the corner photo <strong>by</strong> the TV.<br />

But the eyes in the café were riveted not to this giant but to the<br />

woman beside him, a blond Amazon whose wild jumble of curls<br />

tumbled over a champagne mink stole that covered but left a glimpse<br />

of deep cleavage. <strong>Her</strong> snake skin jeans tapered fiercely into matching<br />

stiletto boots, bringing her up to her <strong>com</strong>panion's height. <strong>Her</strong> face was<br />

African like his but her skin was lighter, the same dark caramel as the<br />

under-strands of her hair. She must have been riding on the handle<br />

bars, because there was only one bike attached to the iron railing<br />

outside, and he was the one beaded with sweat.<br />

Alessandro saw Penny's face and turned around. The woman<br />

spotted Alessandro and waved, breaking into a big movie star smile.<br />
