LE MURIER SCHOOL
RECEIVES FUNDING
FOR A TRAILER AND
HI-VIS JACKETS
Le Murier School has benefitted
from the donation of a large
trailer and hi-vis jackets for its
students thanks to funding from
The Ana Leaf Foundation.
Following an appeal by the school
for a trailer to help transport a lot of
bulky and heavy equipment used
by the students during their Duke
of Edinburgh Expeditions as well
as trips on and off island, the Ana
Leaf Foundation stepped forward
having previously supported
the school’s expeditions.
Twelve hi-vis jackets were also
donated to the school by the Ana
Leaf Foundation. These jackets will
be used by students in the sensory
and communication group and
C5’S SPEED QUIZ RAISES
OVER £2000 FOR
GUERNSEY MIND
C5 Alliance’s fifth annual digital
speed quiz has raised over
£2000 for local mental health
charity Guernsey Mind.
The quiz, which was initially
created to transform the traditional
‘pub quiz’ format, saw staff from
the Channel Island technology
business and their guests compete
using only an app run on smart
devices such as phones or tablets.
Marc Lainé, Managing Director
of C5 Alliance, said: ‘The support
the language and communication
group whenever they go on
walks to aid sensory stimulation,
exercise and road awareness.
Gary Dovey, Learning Outside
the Classroom Coordinator at Le
Murier School, said: ‘The trailer
will be such a great help for our
school trips. Some of our students
are wheelchair users and need
specialist lifting equipment which
can often be heavy and bulky.
‘It’s important that we find
solutions for our students’
specific needs and this trailer
will now allow them to travel
off the island and learn in new
and exciting environments.
Amanda Simmons, a trustee of
the Ana Leaf Foundation, said ‘We
have supported Le Murier School
for several years and are glad to
continue to help make a difference
to both the teachers and students.'
that Guernsey Mind provides
can transform lives so anything
we can do to help that is a nobrainer.
We’d also like to thank
everyone who donated gifts for
our raffle and auction as without
that we wouldn’t have been able
to raise the money.
‘It’s important for us to keep
the conversation about mental
health on the local agenda; we
want to make every effort to
help overcome the stigma often
attached with mental health.
Guernsey Mind is our charity of
choice because of the fantastic
work they do to help tackle this.’
THE CHANNEL
ISLANDS CO-
OPERATIVE SOCIETY
LIMITED COMMITS
TO SUPPORTING
ISLANDERS WITH
DISABILITIES
The Channel Islands Co-Operative
Society Limited has announceed
its Hidden Disabilities Sunflower
Scheme is now a permanent
service across all of its stores.
The trial scheme was launched
last June to help raise awareness
amongst Co-Op colleagues of the
diverse and unseen disabilities they
may come across in islanders, so
that they can recognise, reassure
and respond accordingly. As part of
the scheme, islanders with hidden
disabilities have the option to wear
a sunflower lanyard or pin badge,
which says, ‘I may need support’.
Hidden disabilities can include
dementia, people with hearing loss,
the visually impaired and those with
learning difficulties amongst others.
The Co-Op is continuing to run
training sessions for its colleagues
to support and improve the
shopping experience for islanders
with hidden disabilities. The
Hidden Disabilities Sunflower
Scheme is part of the Society’s
disability and inclusion strategy,
which aims to change attitudes
and improve the quality of life for
disabled islanders and their carers.
The Channel Islands Co-
Operative Society’s Community
Officer, Tanya Dorrity, said:
‘We are delighted with the
feedback we have received from
service users of our Hidden
Disabilities Sunflower Scheme.
As a community retailer, hearing
such positive feedback from
our customers, proves why this
scheme is so important and is just
one of the reasons why we wanted
to make it a permanent service.
Our announcement is timely with
the Purple Tuesday event and
we encourage businesses and
customers alike to take part where
they can.’
