3PM – A JOURNEY TO THE PAST<br />
The National Railway Museum is the next stop, with<br />
a world-class collection of locomotives from the<br />
Flying Scotsman to the Mallard and Queen Victoria’s<br />
vintage carriages. Immerse yourself in stories from<br />
centuries of railway history and discover unexpected<br />
objects from the world’s largest railway collection.<br />
RAILWAY MUSEUM<br />
7:30PM – NORTHERN CUISINE<br />
York is home to some of the finest eateries in the<br />
north, but when it comes to quality and local produce<br />
goes, a meal at The Whippet Inn is as good as it gets,<br />
but make sure you book in advance. After the best<br />
steak you’re ever likely to have, grab a pint at the<br />
Golden Fleece – one of the most haunted sites in<br />
the UK.<br />
DAY 2<br />
10AM – RIVER CUISINE<br />
York Boat cruises run regularly through the day<br />
and give you the chance to see this fabulous city<br />
from another perspective. Setting off from the city<br />
centre, you’ll travel up the River Ouse and discover<br />
scenes of great historical importance, as described<br />
by the knowledgeable skipper. If it’s a nice day, you<br />
can even catch some rays up on the sun deck.<br />
3PM – VIKING ADVENTURE<br />
Travel back in time to the Viking age and discover<br />
the sights, sounds and smells of the city at the<br />
JORVIK Viking Centre. Discover the lives of the<br />
inhabitants of 10th-century York as you travel<br />
around the reconstruction of the city. All that you<br />
see is based on actual archaeological evidence<br />
found during the Coppergate excavation.<br />
5PM – WALK THE WALLS<br />
It’s a must-do when visiting York and an ideal<br />
way to enjoy some incredible views out over<br />
the city and the surrounding areas. The route<br />
usually lasts around 90 minutes, but set aside a<br />
little more time just in case you get distracted<br />
by the many interesting tourist hotspots. Tourist<br />
Tracks offers audio tours of the walls which are<br />
great at filling you in on the history of the city.<br />
10:30AM – GLORIOUS GARDENS<br />
Set in the stunning surroundings of the Medieval<br />
ruins of St. Mary’s Abbey, York’s Museum Gardens<br />
are a welcome retreat from the hordes of shoppers<br />
and tourists. Treat yourself to something to eat<br />
and simply wander to your heart’s content. You’ll<br />
also stumble upon the Yorkshire Museum which<br />
displays fabulous exhibitions and is a wonderful<br />
way to spend a relaxing couple of hours.<br />
YORK MINSTER AND WALL<br />
7PM – YORKSHIRE PRODUCE<br />
Settled beside the river, The Star Inn the City is<br />
one of the newest additions to York’s vast restaurant<br />
portfolio and has quickly become the go-to place<br />
for a special meal. Serving up the best of Yorkshire’s<br />
produce and catch-of-the-day fish specials, you’re<br />
sure to enjoy one of the best meals you’ll ever eat. It’s<br />
also ideally located for a pre-theatre dinner should you<br />
wish to take in the latest showing at the Theatre Royal.<br />
