Travel THE PIER ITSELF IS AMAZING AND WITHOUT A DOUBT IT WAS BOTH POPPY AND REUBEN’S FAVOURITE PART OF THE TRIP The Pier itself is amazing and without a doubt it was both Poppy and Reuben’s favourite part of the trip. I recommend heading on to the Pier late afternoon – we went on in sunlight and by the time we’d enjoyed a selection of rides including flying dragons, carousels, trampolines and bumper cars then spent more than we should in the arcade, it was dark outside and we got to enjoy the Brighton seafront in all its night time glory. We learnt one important lesson though; don’t take four and six year olds into the House of Horrors unless yours are braver than ours... it was not a popular move! Brighton’s Royal Pavilion is beautiful and worth a visit. There are children’s guidebooks available at the entrance, audio guides and a special tour for children too – plenty to keep little ones well entertained. If you head to brightonmuseums.org.uk, you can also download and print a trail that children can follow and complete during their visit. For our two nights in Brighton we stayed at the Holiday Inn. Its seafront location meant we could stroll inland to or along the coast. The hotel was great, breakfast was great, and with Stock Burger Co. as the adjoining restaurant you’ll be seriously tempted to ‘dine in’ in the evening. The burger I had for dinner might just be the best I’ve had in years. BRIGHTON’S ROYAL PAVILION IS BEAUTIFUL AND WORTH A VISIT. THERE ARE CHILDREN’S GUIDEBOOKS AVAILABLE AT THE ENTRANCE, AUDIO GUIDES AND A SPECIAL TOUR FOR CHILDREN TOO Speaking of food, we certainly made the most of our stay. Iconic Brighton rock was naturally on the list of must-try (and the shop itself was a fascinating visit) but we also had a fantastic lunch at Bella Italia as well as making our way to Dum Dum Donutterie in the Lanes. Our walk into town from the seafront took us up Preston Street which is apparently referred to as ‘restaurant street’ locally. We didn’t have a chance to eat there this time but the range of restaurants looked amazing, from French, Moroccan and Lebanese restaurants to sushi bars, Japanese taverns, Turkish and Chinese restaurants with entire dim sum menus. We also ate at NuPosto – a fantastic Neapolitan pizzeria in the heart of Brighton. While children’s menus are sometimes a saving grace, we like to venture beyond chicken nuggets, and NuPosto’s antipasti selection gave us this opportunity with the Salsiccia E Patate (roast potatoes with Italian sausage) going down particularly well. It's the oldest operating aquarium in the world and we got to enjoy captivating tunnels and interactive displays, all set in the amazing Victorian premises. Unfortunately, refurbishment works in the ocean display meant the glass bottom boat and ocean tunnel were closed during our visit but the good news is they’re due to reopen in the spring and I’m sure the upgraded attractions will be worth the wait. On our final morning before heading back up to Gatwick, the weather luck had almost run out so we made our way to Brighton Marina, a chic shopping hub further up the seafront. We had a game at the Hollywood Bowl and watched a film at Cineworld before a fantastic lunch overlooking the boats and marina.
