CAFÉ LATINO
An upmarket bar located on a corner of the
city walls with views over the marina, this
bar has a cool ambience and a stunning
selection of cocktails.
L’ARCA
Just south of the old town right on the
seafront, this large spacious bar has
plenty of outside seating, while inside table
football and live music prevail.
BARONDA
On Piazza della Misericordia is a stylish
bar with a wide range of cocktails. DJs
provide music and there’s space to dance
for those who do.
CANTINA SANTA MARIA LA PALMA
Famous for Akenta, their sparkling wine
made from the Vermentino grape. Every
year 700 bottles are conditioned at sea
40m underwater. They claim that the
pressure increases the size of the bubbles
and improves the aging process.
BEACHES
SPAGGIA MUGONI
An oasis of peace blessed with soft pale
sand and crystal clear water that is almost
entirely enclosed and hidden in the Porto
Conte Bay at the north-western part of
the island.
PORTO FERRO
Accessed using an unmade bumpy sandy
track through the woods this is a less
populated beach beloved by surfers and kite
boarders alike. A simple beach bar serves
uncomplicated food and drink.
CULTURE
EASTER PARADES
Festivities in Alghero see statues of the
Virgin carried through the streets led by
a brass band and surrounded by women
dressed in black with ornate shawls singing
mournful hymns. The town is decorated
with red lanterns and the strangely
hypnotic event is fascinating to watch.
TUNA MUSEUM
In Stintino you will find the traditional
method of tuna fishing, practiced in the
Gulf of Asinara until the last century. This
museum allows visitors to picture the lives
of the men who fished and prepared tunas.
PALMAVERA
Go back in time and check out the Nuragic
complex at Palmavera, which dates back to
the 8th century B.C. It is the site of one
of the largest concentrations of so-called
Domus de Janas (prehistoric hypogea -
tombs carved out of the rocks) on this
historic island.
BASKETRY MUSEUM
Inside the Doria Castle in Castelsardo is a
collection of Sardinian basketwork including
the renowned baskets of Castelsardo,
fishing traps, typical su fassoni freshwater
boats, and sieves and other bread-making
tools. The fascinating exhibits provide indepth
information on the raw materials
used and the various techniques employed.
ALGHERO CATHEDRAL
Make sure you tick off Alghero Cathedral,
built in the 16th century, the impressive
Sant Miquel’s Dome, and the Porta Terra
tower, which you can climb up for fantastic
views across Alghero.

STROLL AROUND THE OLD TOWN
From Alghero’s waterfront ramparts
to its striking religious architecture,
you’ll encounter several impressive
landmarks during a relaxed stroll.
PAY A VISIT TO BOSA
Head south along the picturesque
coastal road, past dramatic rock
formations and stunning sea views
to discover the small town of Bosa.
It is one of the most attractive
settlements on the island and famed
for its rainbow-coloured buildings.
DISCOVER NEPTUNE’S GROTTO
Mesmerising sea caves, set below
a sheer cliff face, are believed to
stretch inland for around 4km, while
the ‘Goat’s Steps’, carved into the
cliff face in the 1950s, provide some
great vantage points of this dramatic
coastal landscape. The Grottoes can
be reached with a short boat trip.
VISIT THE VINEYARDS
Get a traditional taste of Sardinia
by paying a visit to the vineyards of
Sella and Mosca. For fans of wine,
there’s no better way to spend an
afternoon, followed by the inevitable
tasting session.
SHOP FOR RED CORAL
Recognised since ancient times for
its intense natural colour Corailium
Rubrum, known as red coral, is of
great value to the Alghero economy.
Only licensed fishermen can collect the
coral and only certificated craftsmen
are allowed to transform it into artpieces
and jewellery.
