South Woodham Ferrers WI December Report
We had a Christmas Lunch at The
Bull in Great Totham, expertly
organised by Shirley. The resident
singer, Glenn Barnes, entertained us
with songs of the 50s and 60s (our
era!) and some Christmas ones as
well. It was a lovely afternoon and
we look forward to more of Shirley’s
excellent outings in 2019. I hear
there are more in the pipeline
already!
Traditionally, the December
Meeting is our Christmas Party and
this year was no exception. We
started an hour earlier than usual
with a delicious lunch, provided by
The Eatery. This included a large
selection of sandwiches, samosas,
spring rolls, prawns, sausage rolls,
crudités and chicken pieces. The
fruit platters were a great hit too.
We had our usual selection of mini
cream cakes afterwards, which
always go down well.
The entertainment was provided by our guest, Karl Jacey
who sang a selection of popular songs originally by ‘Rat
Pack’ singers, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy
Davis Jnr.
We also heard the ever-popular Bobby Darin ‘Mack the
Knife’ tribute as well as songs made famous by Kenny
Rogers, Elvis and more. Karl finished the afternoon with
a selection of Christmas songs to put us in the mood for
the forthcoming festivities.
Once again our ladies were very generous in providing
items to be included in our Christmas Hamper, which was
first prize in the Raffle. It was won by Christine who was
delighted as she has a large family to feed!
The Punter Cup is awarded to the member who gains the
most points during the year in our monthly Competition.
This time it was won by Joy. We were very pleased by
this result, as she came to within one point of winning
last year. Well done Joy!
The ladies of the Committee always make the tea at
Christmas so a big ‘thank you’ to them for that and for
all the help setting up on the day - we couldn’t do it
without you!
The Craft Club will re-start on Tuesday the 8th of January
at 1.30 until 4.00pm in the WI Hall, Guys Farm Road.
Anyone is welcome to join us. You never know, there
could be some mince pies left to go with our cup of tea!
