There are models that carry your signature
on many big brands. How do you
interpret your designing line when you
consider all of your models?
Uşaklıgil Carpet, Atlas Carpet, Empera
Carpet, Kartela Carpet, Velvet Carpet,
Apex Carpet, Enti Carpet, Dolce Vita
Carpet companies have many products
drawn by me and my team in their
collections.
I believe in the common sense in designing.
I owe a lot to the teams I work with.
I worked with the best executives and the
best marketers. I had a chance to work
with the best engineers. All of them have
a big share in the success of my designs.
When I look back, I see more of an adventure
or a learning process than cult
and style. Just like a story or a novel. I’ve
weaved the introduction and progress
parts of my novel loop by loop. What I did
was always try to catch the tomorrow.
This has not changed today either. But
success in the carpet industry is not in
the far away futures. The product is the
thing that what you need to read and
produce, and sometimes to create, is the
market demand of following six months.
If you do this for many years, it looks like
you have designed the past when you
look back.
You have your own brand and team.
What do you do?
Since 2015, I have a store and design
office in Kocaeli. Together with my team,
we use this place as a centre and provide
design services to companies. In 2018,
we created the first collections of two
different brands. Velvet Carpet and Kartela
Carpet.
All designs in their catalogues carry our
signature. Being active in the formation
process of these brands is a great
source of happiness as well. We also
provided design support to Apex Carpet
Company. We made carpet designs too
many different production methods, from
printed rugs to flocked three-dimensional
carpets, from sublimated patterned
carpets to woven carpets.
I’m creating a designer collection nowadays.
A carpet collection which is going
to be produced with Uşaklıgil Carpet &
Design brand. We started to sell ZERO
series products in the first series. Zero
is the end of a countdown for us. Brand
new product. Zero carpet is in its designing
today.
We want to reach a large collection by
adding another series in succession.
I kindly ask your readers to wish us luck.
Is there a topic you want to add?
I would like to offer a recommendation
through your magazine. One of the
sectors in which we have the largest
share in world trade is carpeting. For
thousands of years, we are at the head
of the rule-making countries in this
sector. Turkish carpet is a brand all over
the world. I would like to offer to create
a “Turkish Carpet” or a “Turkish Rug”
stamp to the carpet industry just as like
as the “Made in Turkey” stamp.
This emphasis, will be both a shared
value that we may adopt totally, and provide
marketing support as well.
Carpet sector in our country is very
strong. Carpet manufacturing companies
perform important projects with foreign
designers. They’re getting designs.
They’re also running the series.
Turkish carpet designers who work
under brands also do a lot of superior
works. The market share of our designs
is far ahead of our foreign competitors.
Nevertheless, Turkish designers find it
hard to find a firm that believes them
and gives responsibility when it comes to
free design.
It is practically impossible for small
independent design firms to benefit from
government incentives. I ask manufacturers
to trust Turkish designers. This will
certainly accelerate the creativity in our
sector.
