In the tradition begun by the Beaumont Ice,
Light, and Refrigerating Company in 1888, and
continued by Gulf States Utilities, their
successor, Entergy Corporation not only
supplies electricity but also contributes to the
growth and quality of life in Jefferson and
twenty-five other Southeast Texas counties.
Just as in the days when horse drawn wagons
were the chief mode of transportation and
electricity was the new technology promising an
end to gas lights, wood stoves and ice boxes in the
home, Entergy is committed to providing
customers with a safe, reliable supply of electricity.
The company’s hardworking crews maintain
poles and wires that deliver electricity to its
385,000 customers and those of other electricity
providers in the area. Entergy Texas has about
twelve hundred employees.
Its employees are actively involved in making
their cities and towns great places to live and
work. Through Community Connectors,
hundreds of employees and retirees in the
company’s four-state service area volunteer tens
of thousands of hours of service annually to
improve their communities.
Entergy provides financial support to
organizations that address education and
literacy, environmental improvement and
development, arts and culture and health
and social services.
Entergy Texas’ impact reaches into other vital
areas of the economy, including state and local
taxes that provide a major source of revenue for
many municipalities.
A major global energy company with power
production, distribution operations and related
diversified services, Entergy owns, manages or
invests in power plants generating over thirty
thousand watts of electricity in the U.S. and
other countries. Its domestic utility companies
deliver electricity to about 2.6 million
customers in portions of Arkansas, Louisiana,
