For almost fifty years Earl LaGrappe has been
involved in the ownership and operation of
Earl’s Aluminum in Nederland. The business
was started by Earl’s father, and Earl began
working there on a part-time basis when he was
about fifteen years old, gaining knowledge and
experience in the business.
After Earl was grown, his father encouraged
him to start his own business manufacturing,
selling, and installing products ranging
from carports and patios to windows and
glass rooms. Following those suggestions,
Earl set up his own company, but for several
years continued helping operate his father’s
business, which in turn became a father and
son business.
“After I got my operation going, I bought my
father’s business, which primarily involved
manufacturing sheet metal,” Earl says.
This was about 1987 or 1988, and for a while
Earl operated both places, but eventually sold
the original site, though he retained the name of
Earl’s Aluminum, which had become familiar to
area residents.
“We’re heavily into the sale of storm
protection, such as accordion shutters to help
protect homes and businesses during
hurricanes,” Earl said. “We also energize homes
to help our customers reduce their electric bills,
through the use of energy efficient products,
which include windows and glass rooms.” Earl’s
Aluminum manufactures storm windows,
window replacement windows, solar screens
and window screens.
Earl’s Aluminum also does a large amount of
metal fabrication for homes, including such
things as soffits, fascia, and siding, as well as
carports and patios.
“We also manufacture solar and regular
window screens, utilizing a state-ofthe-art
screen machine,” Earl says. “We do
some sheet metal at this time, and plan
to increase that part of the business in
the future.”
