communities that we can hope to redress the current imbalance in
the proper interdependency and universality of our historic,
mainline Churches.
The cultivation of good stewardship must be supported by
institutional policy and example, and with an evident and uniform
coherence between our teaching and our practice. Indeed, the
example set by diocesan/presbytery leadership will not only be
formative for congregations, but will either put teeth in our rhetoric,
or give the lie to it. If we expect people to give “a good measure,
pressed down, shaken together [and] running over” (Lk 6:38), they
may rightly expect that the Church as a whole will make the very
best of the gifts entrusted to it.
