Assessment and Exam Responsibilities & Expectations: Students are expected to be in class when assessments have been scheduled. In the event of excused absences, it is the responsibility of the student to arrange with the teacher an alternate time to complete an assessment. Our staff aims to be fair and flexible with missed assessments. Student learning will be negatively impacted if students demonstrate a pattern of missing scheduled assessments and if students do not take responsibility for completing missed assessments. In some cases, students may demonstrate a pattern of missing summative assessments that could indicate learning concerns or other involved factors. There will be communication with parents and the student may be referred to counselling and/or administration for follow up. Students should talk to school counsellors, teachers, school administration, friends and/or parents to get the academic support they need, and should not take part in academic dishonesty. Students should use MEL Time and tutoring for academic support opportunities. Diploma Exams Responsibilities and Expectations: Schedules for exams are placed in a variety of locations including on School Zone, via the weekly parent email, in the main office, in the Voyageur News, on the website ( www.melazerte.com ), and are also posted throughout the school. Personalized exam schedules for each student are also posted in the ‘Student Profile’ section of School Zone. All students are now required to sign-up for myPass and will be able to access a host of information. Click mypass.alberta.ca to create a profile. ● Diploma Exams: Alberta Education states the following about diploma exams: Students are expected to comply with the Diploma Examination Rules. Students who interfere with the 12 |40
security of examinations falsify examination results; disrupt other students or commit any other act that misrepresents their achievement may: ○ be evicted from the examination room; ○ have their diploma examination(s) invalidated; ○ be barred from writing any other Alberta Education diploma examination for a period not exceeding one year; ○ have their official transcripts withheld for a period not exceeding one year; and ○ have their official transcripts annotated (which means permanent notes show up on transcript). ● Diploma Rewrites: ○ Students who are retaking courses will not be automatically registered for the Diploma exam. Students may register themselves for diploma exams online using myPass at mypass.alberta.ca or by paper using the Diploma Examination Registration/rewrite Fee Payment Form. Students must contact the intended writing center to request permission to write before self-registering Click here for the Payment Form. ○ The Grade 12 Diploma examination schedule is set by Alberta Education and can be found on their website at https://education.alberta.ca . Attendance/Late Responsibilities and Expectations at M.E. LaZerte: ● Attending each class every day on time is one of the most important contributing factors to student learning & success; ● Responsibility for attendance comes from students and parents. All absences must be reported to the main office, by a parent phone call or signed parent note, within 7 calendar days of the absence. Medical documentation is required for ongoing absenteeism due to health concerns lasting more than 3 consecutive days; ● Students that need to leave the school during class time due to illness or to attend an appointment must sign out through the main office for safety reasons. Office staff will need to speak with a parent/guardian by phone before the student can sign out; ● All unexcused absences from class will be recorded and will be reported to the home on a daily basis by an automated phone reporting system or by teachers; 13 |40
