M.E. LaZerte High School is like no other high school. Yes, we have top academic programming with our International Baccalaureate Programme, Mandarin Bilingual program with our Confucius Classroom, and more Career Pathways opportunities with numerous CTS courses including Medical Sciences,Cross Fit, Pre-Engineering, Construction, Design Studies...the list is so large that it is difficult to find coursework that we don’t offer! But we are more than just the courses we offer...rather, we are a community that is working together to create authentic learning spaces dedicated to positive interactions, activities, and community partnerships. We honour the student voice, as highlighted by opportunities to try innovative courses, hear top rated speakers, and initiate collaborative projects together with our catchment schools. We want to clearly outline our expectations and responsibilities to set everyone up for success, so please read and success the contents of this booklet and look forward to a great year! This handbook exists to ensure students have a clear and consistent understanding of the student behavior and expectations at M.E. LaZerte High School. As part of the registration process, M.E. LaZerte requires students to read through this document with a parent/guardian. Both the student and a parent/guardian must sign the registration forms; Student Declaration (golden yellow) and Media Consent (cream) located within the central pages of this booklet. All registration forms must be returned at registration. Supporting Student Success: Members of the Edmonton Public Schools community, including students, parents, staff and Trustees, have a shared responsibility to help students be successful in school. Safety and well-being is fundamental to our students thriving as learners, and experiencing success and fulfillment both at school and in their lives. This Student Rights and Responsibilities document has been created to communicate clear expectations for how our students are expected to behave in order to ensure they become the best students and citizens they can be. Parents support their child’s success and positive behaviour by: ● taking an active role in their child’s personal and academic success; ● reviewing expectations outlined in this document with their child; ● helping them to attend school regularly and to develop the skills required to meet the school’s expectations; ● encouraging and modelling collaborative, positive and respectful relationships with others in the school community; ● working collaboratively with the school to resolve student conduct issues; and ● reporting to the school any circumstances which may impact student safety. Students are responsible for their behaviour and effort, and are expected to: ● contribute to the development of a welcoming, caring, respectful and safe learning environment; ● learn, practice and demonstrate positive personal and interpersonal skills and attributes; 3 |40
