Graduation - Commencements Responsibilities and Expectations:
To be eligible to participate in our school sponsored M.E. LaZerte Commencement, a
Grade 12 student must:
● have 90% attendance and punctuality (no more than 10% unexcused absences or
10% unexcused lates). For commencement purposes the school will only count an
absence or late as “excused” if parents/guardians report the reason to the main
office within one week of the absence or late. Medical documentation may be requested
for chronic absenteeism (even if excused). If parents/guardians see any discrepancies
in attendance, (as communicated in SchoolZone and the automated phone system)
they must notify the main office within one week of the date of the absence or late
in order for it to be corrected;
● be a student in good standing by abiding by all M.E. LaZerte School rules and
behavior expectations;
● be on track to complete his/her high school diploma by the end of June;
● have no outstanding fees (including grad fees); and
● register for a myPass account.
Graduates and their family members are encouraged to go to our website to locate
important dates and relevant information about graduation and commencement. There are
a maximum of three (3) guest tickets per graduating student that are available for purchase
for commencement at the Jubilee Auditorium but unlimited tickets for purchase at the
banquet (Shaw Conference Centre).
Hallways Responsibilities and Expectations:
At M.E. LaZerte High School we want students in class, on time with all necessary
materials, and ready to learn. In order to encourage better traffic flow, students are not to
gather on the ramp (it’s a no stopping zone) or along the atrium rails. Staff members will
ask students to ‘walk & talk’ to ensure traffic flows well. Moving Music is 3 minutes prior
to the bell and reminds students to be moving to class. It is the students’ responsibility to
obtain a hall pass from their teacher if they need to leave a classroom. Any student who is
