<strong>of</strong> <strong>Francis</strong> II, 1559, <strong>in</strong> which he attributes the<br />

troubles <strong>of</strong> his k<strong>in</strong>gdom <strong>to</strong> "certa<strong>in</strong> preachers<br />

from Geneva," and also <strong>to</strong> "the malicious<br />

dispersion <strong>of</strong> condemned books brought from<br />

thence, which had <strong>in</strong>fected those <strong>of</strong> the<br />

populace who, through want <strong>of</strong> knowledge and<br />

judgment, were unable <strong>to</strong> discern doctr<strong>in</strong>es."<br />
