Mission Statement<br />

Receiving a Catholic Education<br />

The Office of Catholics <strong>School</strong>s of the Archdiocese of <strong>New</strong> <strong>Orleans</strong> provides leadership, service, support, <strong>and</strong> direction <strong>to</strong> the Catholic school<br />

community. Under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we follow the example of Jesus, the Master Teacher, in our ministry <strong>to</strong> evangelize,<br />

catechize, <strong>and</strong> educate in a caring, efficient, <strong>and</strong> collaborative manner.<br />

Goals<br />

• To foster Catholic identity through the Gospel teachings of Jesus so that Christ’s presence permeates every aspect of each<br />

Catholic <strong>School</strong>;<br />

• To build <strong>and</strong> model a faith community;<br />

• To empower the leadership of each Catholic school;<br />

• To support Catholic schools with leadership, services <strong>and</strong> resources;<br />

• To call each Catholic school <strong>to</strong> responsibility;<br />

• To direct <strong>and</strong> implement all archdiocesan <strong>and</strong> state policies.<br />

Academic Programs<br />

• Catholic values, spirit, <strong>and</strong> faith permeate all aspects of school life in a Catholic school. In addition, formal Catholic religion<br />

classes are taught at all levels.<br />

• Students are offered opportunities for daily prayer, celebrations of the liturgical year (Advent, Lent, the Paschal Season,<br />

devotions <strong>to</strong> the Blessed Mother), <strong>and</strong> the reception of the Holy Eucharist at mass.<br />

• Service projects, social justice activities, <strong>and</strong> pro-life programs are other expressions of the faith life of the school.<br />

• <strong>School</strong>s welcome non-Catholic students who are expected <strong>to</strong> participate in religion classes <strong>and</strong> take part in liturgical celebrations.<br />

All schools meet or exceed the Louisiana State Content St<strong>and</strong>ards in core curriculum subjects, many have received Blue Ribbon awards,<br />

<strong>and</strong> most are SACS accredited. In addition <strong>to</strong> the core curriculum, schools have developed programs <strong>to</strong> address the talents <strong>and</strong> interests<br />

of students in the areas of art, music, drama, athletics, technology, <strong>and</strong> foreign language. <strong>School</strong>s offer a wide array of extra-curricular<br />

activities <strong>to</strong> develop the whole child.<br />
