A Sun-soaked Getaway
IN KRABI AND PHANG NGA
WITH SUMMER UPON US, IT’S TIME TO PLAN A SUNNY GETAWAY IN SOUTHERN THAILAND
THAT ATTRACTS WITH ITS SUN, SAND AND SEA. WHEN IT COMES TO A HOLIDAY ON THE
BEACH AMID THE SOUND OF WAVES GENTLY LAPPING, THE TROPICAL PARADISES
OF KRABI AND PHANG NGA ON THE ANDAMAN SEA NEVER DISAPPOINT.
Besides Thale Waek (separated sea), one of Thailand’s
unseen treasures, Krabi is known for its fascinating
marine attractions like Koh Jum. This haven of peace
pleases any nature-loving traveller with its serene
sparsely rocky beach, stunning natural scenery
and basic lodging that blends in with the natural
surroundings.
From Koh Jum, it’s possible to explore other
outlying attractions like Maya Bay and the Phi Phi Islands.
Maya Bay looks like a gigantic lagoon surrounded by
towering limestone cliffs. Its undersea world is stunning
and rich with coral reefs and different fish species,
making it one of the most popular diving spots. People
come here to take in its white creamy shores and
sunbathe on its sandy beaches hemmed in by a forest.
Worth checking out is Koh Hong made up of
different limestone islands, each with its own emerald
lagoon ideal for kayaking. From there, it’s worth going
on a day trip to Koh Lanta Yai and Koh Lanta Noi known
for their natural beauty and charming fishing villages.
The islands boast long beaches scattered with small
rocks. Homestay accommodation is provided on
the islands.
Less than 100 kilometres from Krabi is Phang Nga
that hosts Thailand’s biggest mangrove forest and
nurseries for marine creatures. The province boasts
a multitude of big and small limestone islands that
dominate the skyline.
Don’t miss Khao Lak Beach, which was damaged by
the 2004 tsunami, but has since fully recovered. A popular
destination on the tourist trail, the beach is great for
relaxation and ideal for anyone with an extended holiday.
You might want to visit Koh Yao Noi, a peaceful island
that’s surrounded by a scattering of smaller islands -
great for swimming or sightseeing.
For an exciting trip, visit the Similan Islands, one of
the most beautiful diving spots in the world. The islands
attract with their crystal clear turquoise waters and white
powdery sands. Worth visiting is Koh Paed, the largest of
the Similan islands.
