沉 醉 粉 红 城 斋 浦 尔 之 魅 力
The capital of Rajasthan, Jaipur is known as the Pink
City because the city was painted accordingly at the
behest of Maharaja Ram Singh to welcome H.R.H. Albert
Edward, Prince of Wales. Its dominant colour scheme
has become the city’s symbol that continues
to wow visitors.
Worth checking out is Hawa Mahal, a palace
known for its magnificent Persian-Mughal architecture.
Constructed with pink and red sandstones, it boasts 953
small windows decorated with elaborate latticework to
allow cool air to blow in, hence its moniker the Palace
of the Winds. The palace was built as an extension to
the City Palace nearby, which is also ideal for visiting.
Not far from Jaipur is a collection of fascinating
destinations. Visitors will like the Monkey Temple, or
Galtaji Temple, an ancient Hindu temple situated on a
narrow crevice in the ring of hills that surround Jaipur.
Teeming with monkeys that are harmless to humans,
the temple offers a vantage point to watch the sunset.
A trip to Amber Fort is highly recommended.
Located on a hill standing right next to the beautiful
Maota Lake, the fort can be accessed via either a jeep
or an elephant ride. Once there, visitors are rewarded
with a soothing vista of the Pink City. It’s possible to
follow the fort up with Jal Mahal, a majestic palace in
the middle of the Man Sagar Lake. Though still not open
to visitors, the palace is visible from a nearby park.
Don’t miss Chand Baori, an ancient stepwell that’s
30 metres deep. It’s one of the most beautiful and
deepest wells in India.
There’s more to Jaipur than its distinctive colour
scheme. The city’s blessed with multiple jewels that
are sure to dazzle visitors from near and far.
