"We had over 200
people attending from
across China with
one guy coming all
the way from Turpan/
Tu Lu Fan, Xinjiang!"
—Ash Sutcliffe, HIBP founder
ridges. Racers will be put through their
paces on the first day, going from zero
elevation to well over 1,200m on a 20km
course, and then repeating a similar route
on the second day. Only the toughest
will make it across the finish line.
Ash commented, “We built this up from a
few guys knocking about in the woods and
having fun to a fairly serious race series
with four races planned across the Zhejiang
region in 2019. At our first race in March
2019, we had over 200 people attending
from across China with one guy coming all
the way from Turpan/Tu Lu Fan, Xinjiang!”
The Chinese mountain bike scene has
been around for the past 20 years but
has gathered momentum over the past
decade as people have had more time
and money to invest in personal sports.
Hangzhou’s local trails were among the
first to see mountain bike wheels in the
late 90s, and the momentum has only
grown since with riders coming from
across the Jiangsu and Shanghai region.
