US zoo holds farewell party for giant
pandas
The world-famous San Diego Zoo (in San Diego, California), held a special
ceremony on Saturday to kick-off a three-week farewell event for two
giant pandas.
The twenty-seven-year-old female giant panda, Bai Yun, and her son, sixyear-old,
Xiao Liwu, will leave the zoo in late April and be sent back to
China, as the zoo's conservation loan agreement with China has ended.
'Tulip' set to 'bloom' on
London skyline
The skyline of the City of London could be in line for
a spectacular and controversial new addition after
planners gave approval to the construction of a
305-meter observation tower that will be the secondtallest
building in Western Europe.
Final approval for the building, known as the ‘Tulip’
because of its distinctive shape, now rests with the
Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan.
China cuts tax rates on inbound
consumer goods
China will lower the tax rates on a range of goods brought or mailed
by individuals into the country, including food, medicines, textiles and
information technology products, the Customs Tariff Commission of the
State Council announced Monday.
Starting Tuesday, the tax rate on inbound articles included on the 'No.1
taxable item list', which includes books, computers, food, furniture and
medicines, will be reduced to 13 per cent from the previous 15 per cent,
the commission said in an online statement.
Greetings and gifts 'flooding'
firefighters after tragedy
A delivery man left several cartons of milk and rice
cereal at Huaibei Road Fire Brigade in Shijiazhuang,
Hebei province. The gifts came with a note that said,
"Toughest firefighters, promise me to come back safe
and sound after every mission".
An anonymous customer had placed the order for the
Thursday afternoon delivery.
