Common Ground Theatre Company Present
A Season of Mirth,
This Autumn & Xmas
For several years now, Suffolk-based Common Ground Theatre
Company have been bringing their distinctive brand of music
theatre - with powerful stories, good jokes, strong emotions and just
a touch of the surreal, to venues across East Anglia.
This autumn and winter, they'll be presenting two brand new
comedies. From Sept 13, they'll be touring A Sidecar Named
Despair! by Pat Whymark & Julian Harries, featuring Harries and
Dick Mainwaring, reprising the roles they created for Common
Ground's 2013 comedy, Stuff In The Attic. “Pat Whymark’s latest
play is very funny indeed” (East Anglian Daily Times).
"It's about the fall-out when two misfit brothers are forced to houseshare
- with all the "life-baggage" they bring with them", explains
Julian. "My character has a shady past involving dubious small-time
gangsters, which is about to overtake both their lives. One of the
big challenges is to create a comedy motorbike/car chase in small
theatres". Julian and Pat, the creative forces behind Common
Ground, relish such challenges, having produced many weird and
wonderful Xmas shows for Eastern Angles Theatre Co.
This year though, they're presenting their own Xmas show,
"Sherlock Holmes & The Warlock of Whitechapel", a hilarious
musical spoof on Conan Doyle's much loved detective stories, with
Holmes & Watson investigating dark mystical rites and nefarious
goings-on among the wharfs and sewers of East London.
