Children and Young Peoples Services at Springfield Hospital Did you know that at Springfield Hospital we have a dedicated team of Specialist Children and Young Peoples Consultants and Nurses Nicole and Ros co-ordinated by our Lead Nurse Ami Catchpole. Our children’s services run from birth-16 years and our young peoples services run from 16-18 years. We are licensed to admit children from 3 years old and upwards, for day and overnight surgery. Our facilities include individual rooms with en suite, TV & DVD and we can also offer a well equipped play room with lots of toys. For those wishing to stay with their child we can offer a twin room for overnight stays. Younger children will get to drive themselves around our springers ward in our mini gaining their driving licence to drive themselves to theatre. At discharge we provide follow up after care by the children and younger people’s team via phone contract and if necessary by face to face review by the consultant.
If admission is needed then every child and young person attends a pre-admission appointment as a compulsory part of the admission process, once the operation has been booked by the consultant with the children and young people’s team. This is essential to allow time for the child/young person and the parent/ carer to understand the process of the hospital stay, for the nurse to gain vital information about the child and to give time for questions. A walk around the ward and recovery is also given. For those who can fit they can drive our mini to theatres! For young people it gives the nurse time to carry out an assessment to determine which service is more appropriate, either children’s or adult services. At discharge we provide follow up after care by the children and young people’s team via phone contact and if necessary by a face to face review by one of our doctors. We believe in providing a first class safe service for you and your child. No-one likes to have a child that needs to come into hospital, but if the need arises you can be reassured that we are here for you and your child.
