There is nothing quite like the feel of the crunchy fallen leaves underfoot, the chilly frosty morning walks, the beautiful warm tones, and the cosy nights sipping some pumpkin-spiced soup. Perfect! To help you embrace the season, here are some of the best autumn experiences for you to try across the region: “It wouldn’t be an autumn experience without going to a spectacular firework display on Bonfire Night. “ 54
Cosy Pubs There is nothing quite like a cosy pub fire to snuggle up in front of on a chilly October night. Get yourself down to the newly refurbished Adnams pub, The Cross Keys in Aldeburgh where you can experience a wonderful pub with a warm fire, freshly cooked food and perfectly poured pints. The pub oozes comfort and has a lovely atmosphere. Otherwise, The Unruly Pig just outside Woodbridge is a multi-award-winning country pub with warming log burners, original oak beams and a contemporary feel. The pub has tasty quality food, a relaxed atmosphere a and lots of quirky art - perfect for a chilly autumnal evening. Halloween Get yourself down to Barnham Broom in Norfolk for a spook-tacular event this Halloween. Don’t forget to dress in your favourite ghoulishly wear and prepare yourself for a fang-tastic night. The night includes fire-eating, traditional stalls like apple bobbing, delicious food and live music. Ghost Tours It’s time to go and scare yourself silly! October is the perfect month to take yourself, your partner or even a small group of friends on a seriously spooky ghost tour, filled with malicious murder tales, creepy ghost walks and of course, lots of ghoulish fun. There are plenty of ghost walks and tours to experience across the region including the story of the headless ghost in Blickling Hall in Norfolk and the haunting of William Windham III at Felbrigg Hall. Bonfire Night Remember, remember, the fifth of November! It wouldn’t be an autumn experience without going to a spectacular firework display on Bonfire Night. A fireworks display is usually put on every year at Christchurch Park in Ipswich. It’s a fantastic firework display aimed at everyone and includes an explosive evening of music, food and lots of fun. King Coel's Kittens Firework Display in Colchester’s Castle Park is a must-visit. It includes a marching parade of Guy Fawkes and an amazing display. The displays have also helped to raise thousands of pounds to purchase resources and equipment for people and groups with special needs living in the local community. Colourful Walks Visit some beautiful National Trust properties to witness the incredible landscape of colour. From vibrant oranges, golden yellows, beautiful browns and vivid reds, there are many colourful gardens and walks to witness nature’s beautiful earthy tones. Dunwich Health in Suffolk is well-worth the visit to view the heathland’s beautiful autumnal glow. Dunwich offers beautiful walks and peace and quiet on the Suffolk coast. Don’t forget to keep your eyes peeled for red deer too! Seasonal Food and Harvest Festivals This changing season offers some wonderful food and festivities around the region. Autumn sees the peak of harvest and the celebration of apples and pumpkins too. Go apple, blackberry and fruit picking and make yourself a tasty homemade crumble or pie. Visit the Apple Weekend at Blickling for freshly pressed apple juice, delicious autumnal produce and wonderful displays of colourful pumpkins and squashes. Pumpkin Picking Nothing screams October and Halloween than visiting a pumpkin patch and this region has lots of choice. If you live in or around Colchester, visit Foxes Farm Produce. If in Suffolk, you may enjoy Undley Pumpkin Patch and Maize Maze in Beck Row, Friday Street Farm in Saxmundham or Suffolk Food Hall in Ipswich. 55
