promu au rang de Grand Croix de deuxième classe de l'Ordre National Malgache, lors de la cérémonie marquant le
30ème anniversaire de l'Akamasoa.
He came
from Argentina nearly 50 years ago and worked with the poor as a missionary helping to build
roofs over their heads, create jobs, provide healthcare and education. With his humanitarian
association Akamasoa (akama meaning 'friend', soa 'good'), Father Pedro has lifted over half a million Malagasy
people from abject poverty with 3,000 houses built, 25,000 people living in reconstructed villages and 14,453 children
attending school. Thanks to 30 years of humanitarian work and social action, he was named a knight of the Legion of
Honor, has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize and was awarded the second-class Grand Cross of the Malagasy
National Order, during the ceremony to mark the 30th anniversary of Akamasoa.
