Patrimonialisation
Heritage
For two years, the History-Heritage-Development
Department of the University of Antananarivo, in
collaboration with the Museum of Photography of
Madagascar, has been conducting research to trace and
complete the history of cocoa; to discover the privileged
links between this fine product, the Malagasy people
and their culture. These two institutions have also set
themselves the objective of giving cocoa the status of
national heritage, its enhancement (especially from
the tourist point of view), the protection of its natural
habitat and the long-term development of the crop. They
consider cocoa and chocolate made in Madagascar to be
among the identity references of the Malagasy people.
