Economic Development in Orléans:Residents of Orléans may be pleased to know that ourcommunity is named in one of the top five prioritiesof the Capital 2020 Task Force as you can see in thisinformation from the capital2020.ca website:• Over the last decade, every part of the NationalCapital Region has sustained growth in population,employment and diversity, except for the east endcommunity of Orléans.• While Orléans has the highest concentration ofbilingual and educated citizens in Ottawa, there areless than 50 federal jobs here compared to 13,100in Kanata. Orleans is entirely absent on the mapof federal employment campuses in Ottawa andGatineau.• Without a federal employment campus in thiscommunity, we will witness the new light rail transitbring empty cars into Orléans, except at rush hour inthe early evening.• Orléans exports most of its workforce every day.During peak hours, it sees an 80 per cent surge outof the area, with 20 per cent coming in to work inOrléans.• The federal government is building new employmentcampuses. It makes perfect sense to come to finallycome to Orléans.This is one of the primary reasons the Heart of OrléansBIA is a founding member of the Capital 2020 Task Forceand plays a large role in its development.You may be asking yourself what is the Capital 2020Task Force? The Task Force aims to be a catalyst foreconomic development that revitalizes the Ottawa-Gatineau region and guarantees a robust environment foreducation, employment, and innovation in all sectors thatpromote a thriving, dynamic urban environment.At the Heart of Orléans BIA, we believe that economicdevelopment in Orléans is part of the overall growthand health of the City of Ottawa. With Ottawa havingsurpassed a population of one million people, theCapital 2020 Task Force brings the collective support ofvoluntary business and community leaders - from east towest, north to south - to foster transformational changein our Nation’s Capital, on both sides of the Ottawa River.We feel stronglywe need to bepart of that andare pleased ourboard’s ViceChair is sittingat the table.The leadership committee is comprised of a groupof dedicated volunteer leaders with the skillsand experience to assist in the development ofthe vision and the growth of the City of Ottawa.Led by Chair Doug McLarty of MNP and SpecialAdvisor Maureen Murphy of, Maureen Murphy andAssociates, it has six committee Chairs.
