MUST-HAVE
CHINESE APPS
By Turaeva Ziyodakhon
China has become second home for many
foreigners. Our jobs, our lovely friends
and our universities are all here. Far from
our original homes, we have people here
who we can think of as our second families. This
deep connection made it so much harder when the
virus broke out and, like a dark cloud rolling over
a sunny day, thundered through our new home.
For those foreigners who stayed in China, going
out was not safe. Staying cooped up for weeks at a
time without the comforts that modern information
technology affords us is hard to imagine. With that
in mind, we would like to recommend a few of our
favourite Chinese apps that will help you enjoy your
time inside and will be useful in getting what you need
now and after the clouds of COVID-19 have cleared.
1. TIK TOK
Nowadays Tik Tok has become
incredibly popular among
young Chinese and foreigners.
It is a free social media platform
where you can watch a
seemingly unending volume
of funny videos or create your
own. Once you open this app
on your phone it will be hard
to close it. It is now the fastest
growing app the whole world
over, so worth checking out.
2. 饿 了 么 (E LE ME)
All last month when going
out was not safe in China, we
needed a way to kill those
hunger cravings and get
something delicious to eat—
sometimes we are all too lazy to
cook something for ourselves.
Fortunately, 饿 了 么 was there
to save the day. Just download
the app and enter your address
(in Chinese) and away you
go. Thousands of different
dishes are available, including
Chinese, Korean, Japanese,
Mexican, and fast food
favourites too. You can easily
find your favourite restaurant
in this app and order tasty
food which will be delivered
right to your home. This app
was a lifesaver for so many
people during the lockdown.
