MFD Navigation Mode<br />

In MFD Navigation mode, the MFD displays the airplane’s onboard<br />

navigation aid.<br />

The current destination appears in the box at the top of the MFD.<br />

To select a different destination:<br />

Press N.<br />

Your airplane’s current heading is represented by the arrow at the top<br />

of the compass. The needle points to the heading you would have to<br />

follow to arrive at the current destination. Turn your airplane until the<br />

needle is pointing to the top of the MFD and you’re on the right<br />

course.<br />

The two sets of coordinates at the base of your display indicate your<br />

current coordinates and the coordinates of your destination. The<br />

coordinatesare based on acartesian plottingoftheworld map, where<br />

0,0 is in the bottom left comer.<br />

MFD Map Mode<br />

In MFD Map mode, the MFD displays an overhead map of the<br />

airplane’s environment. Your airplane is always shown in the centre<br />

of the map display.<br />

Airplane. NATO airplanes appear in white. Soviet<br />

airplanes appear in black.<br />

Missile. NATO missiles appear in white. Soviet<br />

missiles appear in black.<br />

City, factory, airbase, SAM site, or radar installation. Zoom<br />

in to find out what a particular triangle indicates.<br />

Aircraft carrier<br />

Hill.<br />

You can zoom in and out on the map - there are 12 levels of<br />

magnification.<br />

Status Indicators<br />

Press the hash mark (#) key to increase magnification;<br />

press the semi-colon (;) key to decrease magnification.<br />

Landing Gear Arrestor Hook Thrust<br />

Airbrake Status Indicator<br />

When illuminated, the airbrakes are extended,<br />

Arrestor Hook Status Indicator<br />

When illuminated, the arrestor hook is lowered. Note: This only<br />

functions on carrier-based aircraft.<br />
