when we hurt.

Theme:

funeral or

memorial service.

OPEN: (Approximately 30 minutes)

Welcome: Ground Rules with poster

Psalm 147:3: ASL, discuss and pray.

Session Log: Psalm 46:1, discuss and pray.

Check-In with the Pop-Up-Pirate: when it pops, share from

your Alphabet Poem or Favorite Things. Review OS Book

completed pp. 6, 8, 9, 10, 12, 14 & 15. Apply stickers to all

assigned pages.

FOCUS: (Approximately 55 minutes)

(30) Funeral Story with Flannel Board: OS p. 17 – While

other children are creating their flannel board story, color a

picture about the funeral on OS p. 17. Discuss these topics:

My Experience with Death: OS p. 15.

About the Death: OS p. 16.

Watermelon Hugs: OS p. 22. Read and discuss.

Optional: make a butterfly and talk about how we will be

transformed in heaven.

(25) Votive Battery Candles: assemble the votive candle

craft. Kids like to turn out the lights and read the “We Will

Light Candles” poem and “We Remember Them” (OS pp. 18

and 19). You may choose to save this ritual for the CLOSE.

SNACK: (Approximately 20 minutes)

Banana Caterpillars (seasonal choice)

CLOSE: (Approximately 15 minutes)

Someday Heaven: read and discuss a question while

children color butterflies.

Chime Bell: Share “Happy Snaps” or create a ritual with

votives and poems in OS pp. 18 and 19. See LG.
