LPA 2014 Activities & 2015 Goals
Spacious office for Hong Kong, a New Annex space for Tokyo
Due to expansion of the team three years since opening, our Hong Kong office has shifted to a new space.
Conveniently located in the East of Hong Kong island a minute away from Tai Koo subway station, the generous
space for 11 staff is three times bigger than the previous one, and is certainly spacious enough for conducting
lighting tests. Also, our Tokyo office has open a New Annex Studio space very close to the main office, with 9
designers working there.
Numerous projects received lighting design awards
“Sengukan at Ise jingu Shrine “ in Japan received the award of excellence from the Illuminating Engineering
Institute of Japan, “Intercontinental hotel in Osaka”, “ Park Royal hotel on Pickering” as well as “ Interlace ” in
Singapore received award of merit from Illuminating Engineering Society of North America. We understand that
such award programs have renewed their judging criteria, and we look forward to more and more active design
criticism.
Our traveling exhibition on lighting starts in 2015
To mark LPA’s 25th anniversary, a traveling exhibition titled “Nightscape 2050 - A dialogue between CitiesLight
People in the future ” will commence in Berlin from August 2015. The exhibition is not about showcasing LPA’s work,
it is about sharing visions for relationships between light and human in our future through experiencing different
kind of light, showing nightscapes around the world, interviews with visionaries and workshops with children. The
exhibition will travel to Singapore in November 2015, Hong Kong in January 2016, and finally to Tokyo in May 2016.
New book “LPA 1990-2015 “to be published
Our new monograph, selected 100 projects that LPA have worked on for the last 25 years, will be published around
July 2015. The field of architectural lighting has matured vastly in the last decades with the fast transition into the
current LED dominated industry and evolution of information technology which we think is leading the practice of
lighting design into the second phase. We believe this 400 page LPA book will give us an opportunity to go back to
our roots once again.
Renewal of the lighting detectives’ website
In order to be more user friendly, we have simplified our non- profit activity site “ lighting detectives ” website. The
address is http://shomei-tanteidan.org/en/ Please visit the site and we hope to have your participation!
Transnational lighting detectives – TNT Forum continues
After the successful forum held in Taipei in 2013, we had another wonderful TNT forum in Madrid, Spain in October
2014. We enjoyed the workshop with students analysing the current lighting issues and coming up with very
interesting proposals. The next forum will be happening in Mexico City in October 2015. Hope to see you there!
