February 2021
Calving is in full
swing and of
course Mother
Nature had to flex
a few muscles.
It was so incredibly cold, and
calves born outside had a slim
chance of survival. James and I
spent hours checking cows and
assisting with calving. The nights
were long as I would take the 8
p.m. to 2 a.m. shift and James the 3 a.m.
to 7 a.m. shift, and alternating during the
day. Some nights were so cold we were
checking hourly and sleeping in the barn
in between checks. It was the most logical
solution to getting a little sleep, staying
warm, and allowing the other some
uninterrupted sleep. To be honest, looking
back, February was a complete blur. And
other than one calf picture, there were
very few taken of even the kids. There
was a lot of grace shown in February as
the meals, laundry and house quickly
spiraled out of control as we tried to keep
Dear diary
everything safe, alive and well
during the coldest temperatures
of the year.
March 2021
March was much of
the same as February;
calving cows
and keeping everything
alive and healthy. We
enjoyed cheering on the Hawks in March
Madness, although they didn’t make it as
far as we had hoped. Luka Garza was a
bright spot for us and really has become
a favorite player of all time around our
home. What a class act!
April 2021
On a positive April presented
itself as almost 100%
NORMAL!!!!! Calving was
getting finished up, spring
planting began and a calf
show
was on the horizon.
We traveled to Lancaster,
Wisconsin, where the boys both showed
first place heifers and enjoyed an overnight
stay at a hotel. It was a great way
to round out the month and enjoy some
spring fresh air with special family who
came to cheer us on.
May 2021
I
never knew a month could hold so
much meaning, but man did May
ring the bell! We made it an entire
school year with our kids in school
during a pandemic! Our governor
lifted mask bans and some restrictions
Your success is our success!
The tenacity of a farmer is one we admire. When things get tough, you get
even tougher and your hard work yielded a successful turnaround year.
We’re grateful to partner with such hard-working farmers.
