Entry requirements
Three GCSEs at 3 or a Level 1
qualification at distinction grade.
What will I learn?
This is your chance to gain
experience in the armed forces,
police, fire, prison and paramedic
services before applying to work
in your chosen service. The course
covers a range of units which are
taught through a mix of classroom
study, group activities and field trips.
You will study law and crime,
land navigation, physical fitness,
employment skills and adventurous
activities. You will also study maths
and English qualifications and
complete work experience with the
army and the police.
You’ll build on your interpersonal
and communication skills and
learn how to be an effective team
player. You can progress to a range
of careers in the public services or
continue your studies with us on the
Level 3 programme.

(Armed Forces)

2 years
Entry requirements
Five GCSEs at 4 or above, including
English.
What will I learn?
Develop the knowledge,
understanding and skills you need
to work in the armed forces. This
course is relevant if you want a
career in the Army, Navy, Marines,
RAF, Coastguard or National Guard.
You’ll cover leadership and
teamwork, equality, diversity and
inclusion, security procedures,
emergency planning and response,
government and politics, conflict
management, psychology as well
as taking part in fitness testing and
team sports.
You’ll also enjoy projects with
professionals such as the army
residential, adventure days with the
Royal Marines and development
days with the Royal Navy.
Students progress directly to degree
courses with leading universities.
Uniformed Public Services
(Fire Brigade)
Level 3
Duration
2 years
Entry requirements
Five GCSEs at 4 or above, including
English.
What will I learn?
If you want to work as a fire fighter,
then this course is perfect for you as
it's been designed to give you the
skills knowledge and behaviours
to pursue your career in the fire
service.
You'll develop your leadership skills
and aspects of your physical fitness.
In addition, you'll cover emergency
planning and response, conflict
management, security procedures
and hierarchy and routine.
You will also have the opportunity
to undertake some exciting trips
including a land navigated walk,
indoor rock climbing, archery,
orienteering and a survival
expedition.
