Three GCSEs at 3 or a Level 1<br />
qualification at distinction grade.<br />
What will I learn?<br />
This is your chance to gain<br />
experience in the armed forces,<br />
police, fire, prison and paramedic<br />
services before applying to work<br />
in your chosen service. The course<br />
covers a range of units which are<br />
taught through a mix of classroom<br />
study, group activities and field trips.<br />
You will study law and crime,<br />
land navigation, physical fitness,<br />
employment skills and adventurous<br />
activities. You will also study maths<br />
and English qualifications and<br />
complete work experience with the<br />
army and the police.<br />
You’ll build on your interpersonal<br />
and communication skills and<br />
learn how to be an effective team<br />
player. You can progress to a range<br />
of careers in the public services or<br />
continue your studies with us on the<br />
Level 3 programme.<br />

2 years<br />
Entry requirements<br />
Five GCSEs at 4 or above, including<br />
English.<br />
What will I learn?<br />
Develop the knowledge,<br />
understanding and skills you need<br />
to work in the armed forces. This<br />
course is relevant if you want a<br />
career in the Army, Navy, Marines,<br />
RAF, Coastguard or National Guard.<br />
You’ll cover leadership and<br />
teamwork, equality, diversity and<br />
inclusion, security procedures,<br />
emergency planning and response,<br />
government and politics, conflict<br />
management, psychology as well<br />
as taking part in fitness testing and<br />
team sports.<br />
You’ll also enjoy projects with<br />
professionals such as the army<br />
residential, adventure days with the<br />
Royal Marines and development<br />
days with the Royal Navy.<br />
Students progress directly to degree<br />
courses with leading universities.<br />

(Fire Brigade)<br />

2 years<br />
Entry requirements<br />
Five GCSEs at 4 or above, including<br />
English.<br />
What will I learn?<br />
If you want to work as a fire fighter,<br />
then this course is perfect for you as<br />
it's been designed to give you the<br />
skills knowledge and behaviours<br />
to pursue your career in the fire<br />
service.<br />
You'll develop your leadership skills<br />
and aspects of your physical fitness.<br />
In addition, you'll cover emergency<br />
planning and response, conflict<br />
management, security procedures<br />
and hierarchy and routine.<br />
You will also have the opportunity<br />
to undertake some exciting trips<br />
including a land navigated walk,<br />
indoor rock climbing, archery,<br />
orienteering and a survival<br />
expedition.<br />
